Our Top 5 Tips to Stay Stress Free During Your Move

Top Five Stress-Free Moving Tips

Moving to a new place can be one of the most significant decision someone can make in their lifetime. It’s easy to see why moving can be a stressful process, but it doesn’t have to be. Our professional Seattle full-service movers have come up with a list of the top five tips to stay stress free during your move.

1. Plan Ahead

Waiting until the last minute to get ready for your move is sure way toward a stress filled moving experience. Avoid a chaotic moving process by planning in advance. Even if you hire Seattle full-service movers to handle everything on moving day, there are still a few things you can prepare in advance. Start planning at least eight weeks ahead, especially if your move is during peak moving season.

2. Draft a Moving Checklist

As you go though the planning process, make sure to keep a detailed moving checklist. This way you can keep track of all the tasks you need to complete before and during moving day. Separate the tasks on your checklist by which time frame they should be done by – two weeks before, one day before, the day of, etc. Nothing is more satisfying then checking off your list once you finish a task!

3. Declutter Before You Pack

Clutter in homes is a major source of stress for many homeowners, and moving is the perfect opportunity to declutter. You don’t want to bring clutter to your new home, and getting rid of things you no longer use also decreases your moving expenses. Take some time before packing to sort items into “keep” and “discard” categories. Donate items you don’t want to move with you.

4. Prep Your New Space

Once you arrive at your new space, you’ll want to quickly unpack because being surrounded by boxes for days on end is another thing that causes stress. To ensure unpacking goes as smoothly as possible, it’s best to prepare your new space weeks before your move. Measure doorways and halls so you know if your furniture can fit through. If necessary, give the space a deep clean so you’ll moving into a clean home.

5. Pack an Essentials Box

Even if you work as fast as possible, unpacking can still take a couple of days to get done. Pack an essentials box with some food and cooking tools plus an overnight bag with some clothes and toiletries. You’ll need these easily accessible essentials that will last at least overnight until you’ve unpacked all your boxes and have officially finished your move.
