HomeMOVING TIPS & TRICKSPacking Supplies 101

Different Types of Packing Supplies

When it comes time to start packing before your move, you’ll probably be wondering where to start. There are so many kinds of packing supplies to choose from. There’s boxes, bubble wrap, packing peanuts, and more! Our Seattle full-service movers have come up with a list of the most common packing materials as well as some specialty options.

1. Packing Boxes

Moving boxes need to be sturdy enough to support the weight of your belongings as well as survive unforgiving in transit conditions all the way to your new home. If you want to save money by using recycled boxes, use boxes proven to safely transport heavy items such as book boxes and liquor boxes. Be sure to buy packing boxes in various sizes; use smaller boxes for heavier things and bigger boxes for lighter items like clothing.

Depending on what you need to move, you may need to purchase specialty moving boxes. Delicate items like artwork, mirrors, and glassware especially benefit from being packed into custom boxes. At Established Moving & Storage, the specialty boxes we use include:

  • Artwork boxes
  • Mirror crates
  • Wardrobe boxes
  • Lamp carton
  • Flat panel TV boxes
  • Dish and glass pack boxes
  • Mattress boxes
  • Bike boxes
  • File Storage boxes

2. Wrapping Materials

Putting your belongings into carboard boxes is almost always not enough. Your stuff needs more protection, so you should wrap items before placing them into boxes. Packing paper and bubble wrap are the most common options, they are also very effective at protecting most of your things from damage. Larger items like furniture will need to be wrapped by heavier duty wrapping materials.

  • Shrink Wrap – This is wrapped around wardrobes, cabinets, and dressers to secure their drawers and make sure there is no movement during transportation.
  • Quilt Pad Moving Blankets – These thick blue blankets are used for large furniture like couches and wooden pieces to reduce the chances of denting and other damage.

3. Void Fillers

Void fill materials are used to make sure every nook and cranny inside your moving boxes is filled in. These include:

  • Packing Peanuts
  • Shredded Paper
  • Inflatable Air Bags

At Established Moving & Storage, we offer all these packing supplies at the best prices. Our Seattle full-service movers also use these top-quality materials if you choose to have them do all your packing for you. Relax. We got this.
