It’s your moving day! You have all your belongings packed and ready to go when all the sudden the rain starts pouring down. Perfect. Well don’t worry! Our Seattle local movers have the tips you need to keep your belongings safe and dry during even the rainiest of moving days.
Tip #1: Wrap it up.
Once you get your items in boxes, make sure you properly wrap those items in plastic to keep them dry. For your boxes, a plastic sheet works well. For your larger items, shrink wrap should do the trick. If you have extra tape lying around, a good tip is to tape all around your boxes, or at least the top and bottom, to keep them dry from the wet weather.
Tip #2: Garbage bags are your friend.
Whether you use them to cover your boxes, put over hanging clothes or stuff your blankets and sweatshirts, your items will stay dry in garbage bags. Just make sure you give your team of movers and any friends and family a heads up, so they aren’t throwing away your belongings!
Tip #3: Move your belongings towards the door.
Keep your house clean and dry by moving all your boxes by the door. This ensures you and your movers don’t have to walk all over the house to get your items into the moving truck. Less cleaning is always a good thing. Put your plastic bins and other waterproof items in a spot that is easy to grab in case it starts to downpour. Then you can move the plastic items and hope the rain slows before you continue with your other items.
Tip #4: Create a Cover
If you have tarps, pop up tents or other items that could be used for covers, set them up on the path between your house and the moving truck. You’ll protect your items and avoid a slippery walk to the truck.
