Moving day is here and you are grabbing boxes, loading furniture- and oh yeah, trying to make sure your cat doesn’t run off into the street when the door opens. Or maybe your dog is being a little too friendly with your movers and tripping them up. Whatever the reason, you need to take special precautions to ensure your furry friends are safe on moving day. Our Seattle residential movers have the tips you need to have a worry-free experience, even when moving with pets. Relax. We got this.
Tip #1: Get a pet sitter.
Obviously, the best way to move with pets is not to. Find a friend or family member who is willing to take your pet for the day. This way you aren’t worried about your pet getting loose or interfering with the move and your pet doesn’t have to deal with the stresses of moving. If you can’t bring your pet to a friend, bring your friend to the pet and have them keep an eye on the pet.
Tip #2: Get your pet familiar with the concept of being on the go.
If you have a cat that isn’t used to being in a carrier, leave the carrier out weeks before your move to allow them to get familiar. If your dog has only been in the car for grooming appointments or vets, you may want to take your best friend on a few joy rides to the park or around the block to familiarize them with riding in the car. This all will decrease anxiety for your furry friends on moving day.
Tip #3: Pack an essentials bag for your pet.
You should always be packing an essentials bag for yourself, but don’t forget to pack one for your pet too! This bag should include food, leash/collar, water, disposable litter box or plastic bags and towels. You don’t want to have to unpack boxes if your pet needs some food or a bathroom break.
