The COVID-19 pandemic has caused many of us to be stuck at home with our roommates or family members. Schools have closed down and many offices are letting their employees work from home. These self-isolation measures are meant to stop the spread of the coronavirus and protect the public health.
If you are doing your part to flatten the curve, you will likely be spending most of your time at home for the next couple of weeks or more. Soon enough, the walls might feel like they are closing in around you. Cabin fever might set in. Boredom may become a problem. Here are some fun things to do at home when you’re bored.
Watch a Movie You Didn’t Catch in Theaters
Did your busy schedule prevent you from catching the latest flick in theaters? With numerous moving theaters shutting down due to the pandemic, studios are releasing their films to video-on-demand platforms earlier than planned.1 Some of these films were still playing in theaters, but now you can see them from the comfort of your home. Birds of Prey, Emma, Little Women, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, and Jumanji: The Next Level are some of the most notable titles.
Host a Netflix Party
If you are going to use your self-quarantine time to watch a movie or catch up on a TV series, you don’t have to do it alone. The Google Chrome extension Netflix Party lets you sync Netflix viewing sessions with your friends virtually. The group chat function lets you leave commentary or discuss theories in real time. Are you using another streaming service? Metastream and Rabbit are other apps you can use. Social distancing has never been more fun!
Take a Virtual Fitness Class
Stress levels are bound to be high during this global health crisis. One way to decrease stress and alleviate anxiety is to get in a workout or two. With gyms closed down, you can look to virtual fitness classes. Don’t worry there are a ton to choose from! Planet Fitness, one of the largest gym chains in the country, will be live streaming free online classes on its Facebook Page.2 Other fitness brands offering live-stream work outs are Organgetheory, Peloton, Daily Burn, and YMCA.
